Visiting Tailor Service

Your wedding suit is perhaps the most important garment you'll ever wear. It needs to fit perfectly, feel extraordinary, and — most importantly — reflect who you are on one of the defining days of your life. In the Cotswolds, there is only one tailor who truly understands that brief: Barrington Ayre.

Founded in 2010 by Tom Wharton in his hometown of Cirencester, Barrington Ayre Shirtmaker & Tailor has grown into the Cotswolds' most celebrated bespoke tailoring house. With a showroom in the Market Place at the very heart of Cirencester — and a visiting tailor service that reaches across the UK — Barrington Ayre brings together world-class craftsmanship, an extraordinary range of fabrics, and a warmth of service that sets it apart from anything you'll find on Savile Row.

For couples planning a Cotswolds summer wedding, the choice of tailor is as important as the venue itself. And for those who want their wedding party dressed to match the landscape — in beautifully cut tweed, lightweight summer worsted, or elegant linen — Barrington Ayre is, quite simply, the finest choice available.

The Barrington Ayre Story

Every great tailoring house begins with a vision. For Tom Wharton, the idea behind Barrington Ayre was born from a frustration — and a conviction. Having always loved beautifully made clothes, Tom found the traditional Savile Row experience unwelcoming and intimidating. He believed that the finest tailoring should be accessible, enjoyable, and above all, personal.

So in 2010, he opened his showroom in Cirencester — a first-floor space above what was once Goldsmiths the Jewellers in the Market Place — and created something quite different. A relaxed, genuinely welcoming environment where clients could take their time, explore hundreds of fabrics, and enjoy the process of commissioning beautiful clothing at their leisure.

I always found Savile Row intimidating. I wanted to provide the finest tailoring in an environment where my customers could feel relaxed and really enjoy the experience. In my mind, the experience is part of the joy of having your clothing.

— Tom Wharton, Founder, Barrington Ayre

That philosophy — Savile Row quality, without the Savile Row formality — has defined Barrington Ayre ever since. The showroom features a handmade blue Chesterfield sofa, a gin and whisky bar, and a television tuned to the sport. It is, by design, somewhere you want to spend time. And when the occasion is your wedding, that matters enormously.

7 Reasons Barrington Ayre is the Perfect Choice for Your Cotswolds Wedding

From the quality of the cloth to the warmth of the welcome, here's why couples across the Cotswolds — and beyond — choose Barrington Ayre for their wedding tailoring.

01

Truly Bespoke for Every Member of the Party

Whether it's the groom, groomsmen, father of the bride, or a female member of the party, Barrington Ayre creates bespoke and made-to-order clothing for men, women, and children — every garment cut to individual measurements.

02

Over 3,000 Tweeds to Choose From

With an extraordinary tweed selection sourced from some of Britain's finest mills — including exclusive house tweeds you won't find anywhere else — finding the perfect cloth for a Cotswolds landscape is an absolute joy.

03

An In-House Savile Row Trained Tailor

Barrington Ayre's own made-in-Cirencester clothing is crafted by Sian, a Savile Row-trained in-house tailor. The standard of craftsmanship is exceptional — without the London price tag or the London attitude.

04

A Visiting Tailor Service

Not everyone can come to Cirencester — so Barrington Ayre will come to you. The visiting tailor service covers the Cotswolds, London, the South West, and beyond. For wedding parties, an at-home or venue-based fitting appointment is ideal.

05

A Niche for Tweed Wedding Clothing

Few tailors anywhere in England have the depth of tweed wedding experience that Barrington Ayre has developed. It's a genuine specialism — and it shows in the finished garments.

06

The Full Picture: Suits, Shirts & Accessories

From the three-piece suit and bespoke shirt to waistcoats, overcoats, and trousers, Barrington Ayre can dress the entire wedding party from head to toe in a coherent, beautifully coordinated look.

07

Worn by Some of Britain's Best-Known Names

Barrington Ayre's clothing is worn by Michael Vaughan, Jos Buttler, Robbie Savage, Greg James, and David 'Bumble' Lloyd among others — a testament to a reputation that stretches far beyond the Cotswolds.

The Cloth That Makes the Day: Tweed, Worsted & Beyond

One of the things that makes a Cotswolds summer wedding so distinctive is the way the landscape inspires the wardrobe. Honey-coloured stone, rolling green hills, wildflower meadows, and ancient church towers all speak to a palette and texture that lends itself perfectly to beautifully made country clothing.

At Barrington Ayre, fabric choice is treated as an art form. The showroom holds well over a thousand tweed samples alone — ranging from traditional herringbones and windowpanes to contemporary checks and the exclusive house tweeds that Tom discovered on a fishing trip in Scotland. These rare cloths, sourced directly from a small independent mill, are available only through Barrington Ayre and make for a genuinely unique wedding suit.

Fabrics for Summer Cotswolds Weddings

Lightweight tweeds — a finer summer tweed in a pale wheat, sage, or warm grey checks is perfect for a countryside wedding, breathing well and looking beautifully at home against old stone and meadow backdrops.

Luxury worsteds — for a more classic wedding suit, a mid-weight British or Italian worsted in navy, charcoal, or a subtle stripe remains timeless and elegant. Barrington Ayre works with some of the finest cloth merchants in the country.

Linen and linen blends — for the most relaxed summer outdoor ceremonies, a beautifully cut linen suit in cream, oat, or pale stone is both supremely comfortable in summer heat and effortlessly stylish.

Velvet and formalwear — for evening receptions or black tie elements, Tom's expertise in velvet jackets, dinner suits, and morning coat tailoring ensures even the most formal moments are handled with equal care.

The Bespoke Process: What to Expect

Commissioning a wedding suit from Barrington Ayre is a straightforward, enjoyable, and deeply personal experience. Here's how it works.

I

Initial Consultation

Your journey begins with a relaxed appointment — either at the Cirencester showroom or, if more convenient, at your home or venue. Over tea, coffee, or something from the gin bar, you'll discuss the style, occasion, and vision for your garments. Tom will guide you through cloth options, cuts, and details without any rush or pressure.

II

Measurements & Design

Your measurements are taken with meticulous precision. Every detail — your posture, preferred fit, how you move — is factored into the pattern. Design choices including lapel shape, button stance, pocket style, lining, and monogramming are all discussed and confirmed.

III

Cutting & Making

Your garment is cut and made — either in Barrington Ayre's own Cirencester workrooms by the in-house team, or by their trusted tailoring partners who bring decades of experience to every seam. The process is unhurried; quality always takes precedence over speed.

IV

Fitting & Alterations

Once the garment is ready, you'll return for a fitting. Any adjustments — and there will nearly always be some small refinements — are made by the tailoring team with exacting care. The goal is a fit that feels as though the garment was grown for you, not made for you.

V

Collection & Celebration

Your completed garment is collected — and, in the words of those who've been through the process, the result consistently exceeds expectations. Many clients, delighted with their wedding suit, return immediately to commission a second.

What Wedding Clients Say

The measure of any tailor is the experience of their clients. Here is what those who have trusted Barrington Ayre with their wedding tailoring have to say.

★★★★★

Tom provided exceptional service and advice from both start to finish and the entire process was seamless. All alterations to the suit after the first fitting were done expertly. I highly recommended Barrington Ayre and will definitely be a repeat customer in the future.

George T. — Wedding Suit & Shirt
★★★★★

From the very first appointment through to the final fitting the service and attention to detail was fantastic. The final suit was better than I even expected, so much so I ended up ordering a second which was as good if not better than the first.

Sarah T. — Bespoke Suit
★★★★★

Fabulous is the word that first comes to mind. He is a joy to know, an absolute perfectionist and knowledgeable craftsman. His skill and judgment resulted in me receiving both a suit and shirt of beauty, sublime comfort by fitting perfectly.

Dressing the Whole Wedding Party

One of the great strengths of Barrington Ayre is the ability to dress an entire wedding party in beautifully coordinated bespoke clothing — while ensuring each individual garment is tailored to the unique measurements and personality of the person wearing it.

For the groom, a three-piece tweed suit or a classic morning coat, with a perfectly fitted bespoke shirt, sets the tone for the day. For groomsmen, a coordinating cloth in a complementary check or colour brings visual cohesion to the group without sacrificing individuality. For the father of the bride or groom, a new suit for the occasion is one of the most meaningful and cherished commissions of all.

Barrington Ayre also creates bespoke and made-to-order clothing for women — meaning that any member of the wedding party, regardless of gender, can wear clothing made specifically to their measurements, their style, and their brief.

For larger wedding parties, the visiting tailor service is invaluable. Rather than coordinating multiple trips to Cirencester, Tom and his team can visit your home or wedding venue location and take measurements for the whole group in a single relaxed appointment — making the experience as easy as possible for the people who matter most on your day.

Barrington Ayre is an absolutely stellar shirtmaker and tailor. I have received two shirts with Tom; they could not be better.

Your Questions Answered

Everything you need to know about commissioning your wedding tailoring from Barrington Ayre.

How far in advance should I book my wedding suit at Barrington Ayre?

For a summer Cotswolds wedding, Barrington Ayre recommends beginning the process at least four to six months before your wedding date. This allows ample time for consultations, making, fittings, and any final alterations — with no pressure and no rushing of the craftsmanship.

Can Barrington Ayre dress my entire wedding party?

Absolutely. Barrington Ayre creates bespoke and made-to-order clothing for men, women, and children. The visiting tailor service makes it straightforward to take measurements for a whole group, whether at the showroom or at a location convenient for the party.

What makes Barrington Ayre different from other tailors?

The combination of genuine bespoke craftsmanship, an unrivalled tweed selection, a completely relaxed and welcoming experience, and a deep niche in Cotswolds wedding clothing makes Barrington Ayre genuinely unique. The quality is Savile Row standard; the experience is the opposite of Savile Row formality.

Is there a visiting tailor service for those outside the Cotswolds?

Yes. Barrington Ayre operates a full visiting tailor service across the UK, including regular visits to London, Devon, Wales, and the Macclesfield and Alderley Edge area. Contact the showroom to arrange a consultation at a location convenient to you.

Can I bring my own tweed fabric?

Yes — Barrington Ayre is very happy to create clothing from your own tweed. This is particularly popular with estate owners and those with a family tartan or tweed they wish to honour at their wedding.

What types of garments can Barrington Ayre make for a wedding?

The full range includes bespoke suits (two and three piece), morning coats, formalwear, tweed ensembles, blazers, waistcoats, bespoke shirts, overcoats, and trousers — as well as ladies' tailoring. Effectively, every garment a wedding party might need can be made to measure.
