About us
My name is Tom Wharton, and I set up Barrington Ayre Shirtmaker & Tailor in 2010
I've always loved clothes, and being able to dress how I want to in the designs and fit I want. I have also always believed the whole experience is key, and that is why I set up Barrington Ayre Shirtmaker & Tailor.
I always found Savile Row intimidating. The tailoring shops on the Row aren't always the most welcoming and I wanted to be able to provide the finest tailoring in an environment where my customers could feel relaxed and really enjoy the experience.
In my mind, the experience is part of the joy of having your clothing.
So, I set up, in my home town Cirencester, in a first floor Showroom that is relaxing and inviting.
We have a beautiful hand made blue Chesterfield sofa to relax on whilst you peruse the fabrics and designs. We have tea and coffee as well as wine and beer and even a gin and whisky bar for those who fancy a tipple!
There is also a large TV for when the sport is on. The whole Showroom is designed to be as welcoming as possible, and we are always more than happy to welcome visitors!
You will also find my dog Monty here on most days (pictured below!), who is a very placid dog, who likes a bit of a fuss but spends most of his time sleeping in the sun or by his heater when it's cold!
In January 2020 we took over the 2nd floor that now houses our offices and workroom where we make our own range of unstructured clothing.
You may have seen our clothing on TV worn by the likes of Dan Walker from the BBC, Robbie Savage, Mark Chapman, Charles Dagnall, David 'Bumble' Lloyd and Michael Vaughan.
This all came about when we made some suits for Michael around 15 years ago and he loved his suits so much that he kept recommending us to his friends and word spread and we are now incredibly proud to make clothing for so many celebrities and sports stars.
We now also sport a full bespoke ladies clothing service and you may have seen our clothing on the likes of Nadiya Bychkova from Strictly Come Dancing, Chemmy Alcott, ex skier & BBC commentator, Bev Turner and Tonia Buxton from the news and Sarah Stirk from Sky Sports.
We also welcomed Georgie Fenn from the blog & instagram Winning Away the Weekend to the Showroom to make her her first bespoke suit.
We would be delighted to make your clothing and even if you simply wish to pop into the Showroom to have a look at what we do and some of the clothing we have recently made we would be delighted to have you!
We also offer a visiting tailoring service across the UK and visit London on a regular basis as well as Devon, Wales, Macclesfield and the Alderley Edge area.
