About us

My name is Tom Wharton, and I set up Barrington Ayre Shirtmaker & Tailor 10 years ago.

Tom Wharton, Barrington Ayre Shirtmaker & Tailor

I've always loved clothes, and being able to dress how I want to in the designs and fit I want.

The trouble was that I found Savile Row intimidating. The tailoring shops on the Row aren't always the most welcoming and I wanted to be able to provide the finest tailoring in an environment where my customers could feel relaxed and enjoy the experience.

So, I set up in my home town Cirencester in a first floor Showroom that is relaxing and inviting, you'll find my dog Monty here on most days (pictured below!), who is a very placid dog, who likes a bit of a fuss but spends most of his time sleeping in the sun or by his heater!

You may have seen our clothing on TV worn by the likes of Dan Walker from the BBC, Robbie Savage, Mark Chapman, Charles Dagnall, David 'Bumble' Lloyd and Michael Vaughan.

This all came about when we made some suits for Michael around 6 years ago and he loved his suits so much that he kept recommending us to his friends and word spread and we are now incredibly proud to make clothing for so many celebrities and sports stars.

We would be delighted to make your clothing and even if you simply wish to pop into the Showroom to have a look at what we do and some of the clothing we have recently made we would be delighted to have you!

In early March 2019 we are opening our new Luxury Lifestyle Hub, a room next door to our current Showroom where you can come and learn about tailoring and luxury lifestyle in the comfort of a classic members club feel, where coffee is readily available to read the magazines and books we have as well as catch up with friends and watch the sport on our TV!

Here is Charlie Dagnall showing you round!

We also offer a visiting tailoring service across the UK and visit London on a regular basis as well as Macclesfield and the Alderley Edge area.

In March 2020 we welcomed our own in house tailor, Sian Jones, to the team. Sian studied Tailoring at The London College of Fashion and then spent 3 years on Savile Row at Dege and Skinner.

We are delighted that she has joined the team and she will be mainly making our unstructured 'Made in Cirencester' jackets. You can learn more about these by clicking here

Please do give me a call and I hope to hear from you soon

best wishes
