A Guide to Summer Jackets

A Guide to Summer Jackets

Over the next few weeks, we will be putting together a selection of summer jackets that will hopefully provide you with some inspiration, new ideas and challenge any preconceptions you may have.

Don't forget that there is 20% OFF all clothing during June.

JACKET 1 - THE PATTERN

A summer jacket is the perfect opportunity to be a bit bolder in your choice of fabric.

This fabric is a lovely 9 oz silk / wool mix from Bateman Ogden, with a light blue background with cream and brown over check.

The fabric is lightweight but holds its shape. The design is a classic notch lapel with two slant pockets with flaps.

The lining is a plain cream to compliment the weight and colour of the fabric, but you can choose any colour.

JACKET 2 - THE CLASSIC LINEN

A classic linen is a much loved summer wardrobe staple. But why not look at adding some texture with a slightly different linen weave?

This fabric is a  10.5 oz 100% linen from the Mersolair collection from Harrisons of Edinburgh. It is a sky blue with a defined herringbone weave.

Linen does tend to crease more than most fabrics, so going with a slightly heavier weight can help prevent this happening.

This design also features outside patch pockets for a more casual look and includes a double lapel button hole.

The lining can be of any colour of your choice or with personalised photos.

JACKET 3 - THE UNSTRUCTURED HEAVY LINEN

Often during the summer, a less structured jacket is preferred which can be worn with T shirts or even the perfect option of stain & sweat resistant shirts for a more casual look. This is where the unstructured, unlined jacket comes in.

This fabric is a  17 oz 100% linen from the Mersolair bunch from Harrisons of Edinburgh. It is a wonderful rich blue and although heavy for a linen, works brilliantly as a summer jacket without any lining or canvassing.

The advantage of this weight is that is doesn't crease like a lightweight linen whilst keeping all the breathable and wick-away properties of linen which make it so popular for summer clothing.

There is no lining with this style of jacket.

The design is for external patch pockets and a clever little lower internal pocket. This is one of our 'Made in Cirencester' jackets, hand made in our Market Place workroom.
