We have been asked to make some clothing for one of the most incredible, and scientifically fascinating expeditions ever attempted.
Our clothing, made to the designs of 1924, from the original fabrics and to the original designs will be used in an epic adventure where science will look at how this traditional clothing performs against new modern man made fibre clothing.
THE EXPEDITION
This October The Turner Twins will begin a pioneering expedition to the Himalayas to research one of history’s most mysterious mountaineering moments: George Mallory and Sandy Irvine fateful 1924 Everest expedition.
The expedition will see them scale Mera Peak (6,426m) Nepal‘s highest tracking mountain, as a controlled high altitude testing ground for a once in a century expedition - one where scientific research meets a reimagining of one of mountaineering‘s most enduring stories.
Climbing Back in Time begins with a bold question: could George Mallory and Sandy Irvine have reached the summit of Everest today?
One hundred years after their mysterious disappearance, the Turner Twins are setting out on a unique scientific expedition to find answers - not by climbing Everest, but scaling a 6,500m peak under similar conditions.
With one twin wearing fully reconstructed 1924 expedition kit and the other equipped with the latest high-altitude gear, this project is designed to measure how far mountaineering has come in a century. In partnership with the University of Portsmouth, they’ll compare everything from cortisol levels, dexterity, and thermal efficiency to overall physical performance.
Follow the journey as they climb back in time - one peak, one question, and one century of evolution in mountain gear.
